MASSAC COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A southern Illinois man will spend the next 40 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a 2010 deadly shooting.
Riley E. Purdiman of Cairo pleaded guilty on Wednesday to first degree murder, according to the Massac County State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst.
Windhorst says Purdiman was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in the shooting death of Brad Sims on November 8, 2010 in Massac County. The charges resulted from a home invasion and armed robbery on Unionvile Road.
In court, it was presented that Purdiman and two other men were involved in an armed robbery at the home of Vickie Hollis. Windhorst said the men were looking for Sims who was not there. A short time later Purdiman confronted Sims outside the home and shot him.
Autopsy results showed Sims died as a result of the gunshot wound.
Windhorst says Purdiman was sentenced to 25 years form first degree murder and an additional 15 years because a gun was used.
