POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Police say a Poplar Bluff woman faces manslaughter, DWI charges after an early morning deadly crash.

The crash happened Saturday morning shortly after 4 a.m.

Police say Christine Aldridge, 24, of Poplar Bluff was charged with DWI and two counts of manslaughter.

According to Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley, police officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Ashcroft Road at Saxon Drive Saturday morning for a vehicle that was submerged.

Whiteley says bystanders had helped Aldridge from the water.  Her vehicle was completely submerged and overturned in the Black River.

Police say Aldridge admitted that she was the driver of the vehicle and that she was intoxicated.

According to Whiteley, Aldridge told police that she was driving around the southern portion of Poplar Bluff and did not see the stop sign on Saxon Drive at Ashcroft Road.  The vehicle slid through the intersection after she hit her brakes and went off the road into the Black River.

Aldridge then told police that after her vehicle hit the water, she was able to escape through the driver side window.  Two male passengers remained trapped in the vehicle.

The bodies of two adult men victims were later recovered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells Heartland News that the two men who died in the car are 25-year-old Joshua Adam Phelps of Poplar Bluff, and 29-year-old Jason Carrington of Malden.

Aldridge was taken to the Butler County Jail.

A fund has been put together for donations in memory of Joshua Phelps at any First Midwest Bank in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
