CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The water in Cape Girardeau no longer comes from the Mississippi River.
Thursday, folks at the water treatment plant turned off the switch bringing water in from the Mississippi.
Now, the water filters in from four wells near the Diversion Channel.
Its part of a project the city's been working on since 1996. Voters passed a bond issue to pay for the $18 million in renovations.
It's just a good long term solution to having a consistent water quality, and softer water," said Water System Manager Kevin Priester. "Really, a better end product, if you will."
Priester says some people might also notice a change in flavor as well.
