Gunman kills 7 at university, aid to tornado victims, NCAA tourney

A gunman opened fire today at a small Christian university in California, killing at least seven people, wounding three more and setting off an intense, chaotic manhunt that ended with his capture at a nearby shopping center, authorities said.

Illinois State Police released more information today about the deadly wreck in Perry County, Ill. that happened yesterday.  One person is dead, nine injured and one man faces several charges including DUI after a pickup truck caused a crash with a van and four motorcycles.

Illinois State Police arrested an Eldorado, Ill. man accused of trying to hire a person to murder his wife.

A woman was stabbed this afternoon in Cape Girardeau after an argument with two other women.  Police say the suspect left the scene.

Hundreds of people in southern Illinois affected by the February 29 tornado are going to get some relief from the State of Illinois.  State officials announced $13 million in state aid from various organizations that will help residents, businesses and city governments.  Arnold Wyrick talked with a family that had their home damaged in the tornado and hopes to get some of that money.

Hundreds of people met at Shawnee Community College today to talk about and voice their opinion on Gov. Pat Quinn's proposal to close the correctional facility in Tamms, Ill.  Christy Millweard was at the meeting and tells us what was said and how you can still voice your opinion.

Voters in Missouri will cast their ballots tomorrow in the General Municipal election.  This week the Cape Girardeau County Clerk's office is mailing out new voter registration cards that include a bar code.  Voters do not need those for tomorrow's election.

Jackson voters will decide the fate of a bond issue that could raise money for a new elementary school tomorrow in the Missouri Municipal Election.

Pemiscot County Sheriff's deputies arrested a person after finding a large amount of prescription medication, believed methamphetamine, and dozens of weapons near Steele.

The Herrin Police Department is investigating multiple business burglaries that happened early Saturday.

The Perryville Fire Chief lost his job after an investigation into stolen property.  The board unanimously decided to dismiss him after escalation of the investigation of stealing some damaged metal that was struck by lightning from a city well after a storm.

It's an alarming number.  Melanoma cases in women under the age of 40 are eight times higher now than just 30 years ago.  Researchers at the Mayo Clinic blame tanning beds for the dramatic increase.

Crews worked on the Eggners Ferry Bridge today to get it ready for a contractor to build a new span.  A cargo ship slammed into the bridge, knocking a span of it down in January.

Illinois Lottery officials say the holder of the state's winning Mega Millions ticket for a three-way share of the $656 jackpot remains a mystery.

Missouri players are not among the big winners in last week's record Mega Millions drawing, but some received nice consolation prizes.

The governors of Kentucky and Kansas are confident of victories in Monday night's NCAA tournament final. Enough that they put down a wager on the game.
