UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A fire damaged a shelter at Trail of Tears State Forest in Jonesboro, Illinois.
According to Superintendent of Trail of Tears State Park Bob Martin, a site technician noticed the fire at 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning. The fire possibly started at 8 a.m. or 8:30 a.m.
Martin says a deteriorating grout line for the chimney could be the reason the fire spread to some nearby logs allowing the fire to burn along the back wall.
Jonesboro Fire Department put out the fire. Martin says the fire's cause is accidental.
There is no word on how it started.
Volunteers have already contacted the superintendent to rebuild the shelter.
