Murphysboro woman dead after being struck by vehicle

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

An investigation into the death of a Murphysboro woman hit by a vehicle is underway, according to news release from the Murphysboro Police Department.

Several witnesses reportedly called police around 7:40 p.m. Friday to report a woman had been struck in the 600 block of Bridge Street. 

Officers and Jackson County paramedics arrived to find the woman, later identified as Viola Ganer, lying in the street.

Ganer, 57, was dead by the time paramedics were able to begin treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was located and identified, but police are withholding the driver's name pending the investigation.

    According to Dunklin County Sheriff's Department dispatchers two men are believed to have robbed a pharmacy in Steele, Missouri.
