MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will receive a $9 million grant for repairs to the Eggners Ferry Bridge.

The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation authorized under the Emergency Relief program.

A 8,400 ton cargo vessel carrying parts for NASA crashed into the 80-year-old bridge on the evening of Jan. 26.   A 322-foot span of the bridge was ripped away.

Repair work to the bridge that is eligible to be performed with this grant includes: emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage or protect the remaining facilities, and permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to the condition before the incident, according to U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield.
