LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Basketball fans know the cost of watching UofL take on UK at the KFC YUM! Center, but paying to see the two teams to compete at the Final Four level is something no one has experienced. If you want to be in the center of it all, it will cost you.
For students, the cost of one single ticket is $25, though Chelsea Collopy said she'd pay more. "I'd be willing to pay whatever it took to get me down there just for the experience," Collopy said.
She will have to stay somewhere, though, which will increase her cost. If she heads down with friends, splitting the price of a hotel -- if she buys online at a site like Priceline -- can be as cheap as $270 dollars in the French Quarter. Of course, there's always the option to splurge on $2,000 a night for the Hilton near the same location.
If you're not a student and you didn't already reserve tickets through the University, Ticketmaster is offering packages that start around $1,600. The price includes the game, a hotel, some perks, but not airfare. Depending on which airline you want to fly, we found tickets for $389.
Trying to find a single ticket to Saturday's game? You can get one for as little as $200 in a section all the way at the top in the corner of the Superdome in New Orleans. You could also shell out $1 million dollars to sit on the court for the Final Four and the championship games.
In total, it looks like the cost for one person for round-trip airfare, one night at a hotel and one ticket to the game is about $900.
If traveling to see the game in person sounds like too much, local grocery stores like Kroger already have their blue and red spirit on the shelves. For just a few dollars, you can stock up on chips and dip and have your own viewing party. You can also join the crowds at local restaurants. Some, like the Troll Pub, already posted on their Facebook page to make reservations. If you don't call ahead, you'll want to get to those places early on Saturday. They are all expecting large crowds.
