Prison officials restrict visitation to curb flu

CHICAGO (AP) - Cook County officials are limiting visits for some prisoners because of a spreading illness among inmates.

Sheriff Thomas J. Dart's office said Saturday that the Cook County Department of Corrections and Cermak Hospital were taking measures to contain what appeared to be the flu or an influenza-like sickness.

Officials did not give further details.

The sheriff's office says all detainees in Division 1 at the Cook County Department of Corrections are in a so-called no-movement status and will not be allowed visitors. Similar rules apply to detainees in other divisions as well.

Authorities suggest calling the sheriff's office before trying to visit.
