Federal historic grant awarded to Poplar Bluff

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Poplar Bluff is among three Missouri communities sharing more than $62,000 in federal grants for historic preservation projects.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the cities are Excelsior Springs, Jefferson City and Poplar Bluff.

Excelsior Springs, located in northwestern Missouri, is getting about $35,000 for an archaeology training program to cover artifact collection and field surveys.

Jefferson City plans to use its grant of nearly $11,000 to nominate 1 of its neighborhoods for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Poplar Bluff, in southeastern Missouri, is receiving about $16,000 to complete a survey of land use and building conditions in its downtown area.
