Nixon asks Small Business Admin. for disaster declaration

Missouri's Governor is asking the U.S. Small Business Administration for a disaster declaration so people and businesses impacted by February's tornadoes can get help.

The SBA would issue disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations.   The loans will help people and businesses repair or replace their buildings, personal property, machinery and equipment.  If it was damaged by the storms.

"The tornadoes and storms at the end of February caused heavy damage to homes and businesses across several Missouri counties, and that financial impact will be felt for some time," Governor Nixon said.

Nixon added that he asked the SBA for the disaster declaration so people who are rebuilding can continue to move forward.

Nixon issued a state of emergency on February 29, activating the State Emergency Operations Center to aid local communities with resource requests.
