Shoe company in Sikeston to close, impacting 155 employees

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Brown Shoe Company in Sikeston will shut down, leaving 155 employees without a job.

A Brown Shoe Company spokesperson says the company will be closing its Sikeston business in 2012.  No official closure day was given by the company.

"As we have continued with our portfolio review, we have made the difficult decision to close our Sikeston distribution center in 2012, and this closure will affect approximately 155 employees. We recognize the valuable service of our Sikeston Associates and are encouraging them to consider other open positions within the company. This includes the potential to relocate to one of our other distribution facilities or to join our store Associate team. If these options aren't a fit, we will be providing severance and outplacement services, as well," said a Brown Shoe Company spokesperson.

In 2009, the Brown Shoe Company in Fredericktown laid off 59 people.
