MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A diesel fuel leak slowed traffic on Interstate 24 in McCracken County for a few hours Friday night.

McCracken County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 13 mile marker around 9:30 p.m. for a diesel fuel spill.

The driver, Nicholas J. Kuecken of Marine City, MI was driving a 2006 Volvo tractor eastbound on I-24 when he told deputies he heard a loud noise and looked back to see diesel fuel leaking from his left tank.

Kuecken did not see anything in the road and did not know what cause the leak.

After he was able to stop, he noticed he had a baseball size hole in his fuel tank.

Kuecken had just refueled and had 115 to 135 gallons of fuel in the tank.

The Reidland/Farley Fire Department, Kentucky Highway Department and Environmental Protection Agency responded to the scene to clean up the spill.

Traffic was slowed on the interstate for about three hours.

The trailer was carrying food products that were not harmed in the fuel spill.
