CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -
A leader in the Carterville school district is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from that district.
Monday night, the school board fired Todd Frazier, the chief school business treasurer
The Carterville police department launched an investigation into Frazier's actions with district money. He accused of taking 114-thousand dollars.
Carterville superintendent Robert Prusator says during the districts annual audit they noticed payroll irregularities.
Prusator said the issue first came to light in December. Prusator said at that point Frazier was put on leave.
In 2008 Frazier started to over see the district's finances. He's accused of taking money over the last five fiscal years.
Prusator says in the past few months the district did a thorough investigation to figure out what was going on.
"Nothing is being covered up. We're being as forth right as we can. At this point we believe there is a high level of due diligence and resources put on this to find out what happened," Prusator said.
He added going forward the district is taking steps to ensure nothing like this happens again.
Prusator adds the school district handed over documents to the Carterville police department.
The Carterville Assistant police chief said the department is looking into the theft allegations against Frazier.
