FISK, MO (KFVS) - Crews are cleaning up after a fire at the middle school in Fisk over the weekend.
Twin Rivers Middle School Principal Clinton Salyer says a janitor discovered the fire damage at 4:15 Monday morning.
Salyer says after reviewing surveillance cameras, the fire appears to have started around midnight Saturday in a fifth and sixth grade girls bathroom near the gymnasium.
He says the fire burned itself out and was completely out by the time it was discovered Monday morning.
The state fire Marshal investigated Monday morning and determined the fire was likely caused by a ceiling vent fan that was left running.
The fire was contained to the girls 5th and 6th grade bathroom, but a hallway and classroom has some smoke damage. The gym also has a small amount of smoke residue.
Salyer says one classroom was displaced. He says class is in session and they have moved classes to accommodate while the smoke residue is cleaned up.
Salyer says a cleaning crew is expected to get started on the cleanup Monday afternoon.
The estimated damage is up to $20,000.
