Ft. Knox Army Reservists honored for Iraq service

FORT KNOX, KY (WAVE) - They're back from Iraq and home at last. Approximately 215 Army Reserve Soldiers from the 8-229th Attack, Reconnaissance Battalion were honored at a Welcome Home Warrior Citizen ceremony Sunday.

After spending months defending the stars and stripes, Army Reservists were honored with a framed Old Glory. Every one of the citizen soldiers in their battalion made it home from overseas.

"It was just designed to basically say thank you," said Lt. Col. James Posey.

During the unit's 13-month mission, its members provided aerial security, logging 12,000 flight hours in Longbow Apache helicopters.

Soldiers expressed their appreciation. "It's amazing," said Captain Samantha Clark. "It's nice to know we have the support of all the people while we were gone. The VFW - they've been great and provided us with support."

Military officials said it was a mission accomplished, completing 2,700 missions in support of U.S., Iraqi and coalition partners.
