DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

Workers of the Heartland Bakery Company, LLC in Du Quoin will be eligible for worker adjustment assistance through the U.S. Department of Labor.

The company shut down in December, leaving 31 people without a job.

The director of operations at the bakery says fuel prices and inflation affected the company's ability to make a profit.

On-site leased workers from SelectRemedy will also be eligible for worker adjustment assistance.

The decision from the U. S. Department of Labor reads, "All workers of Heartland Bakery Company, LLC, a subsidiary of Maplehurst Bakeries, LLC, including on-site leased workers from SelectRemedy, Du Quoin, Illinois, who became totally or partially separated from employment on or after February 13, 2010, through two years from the date of certification, and all workers in the group threatened with total or partial separation from employment on the date of certification through two years from the date of certification, are eligible to apply for adjustment assistance…."

Displaced workers will be allowed to receive addition unemployment benefits, job training relocation expense reimbursement and other services throu trade adjustment assistance, according to Congressman Jerry Costello's (D-IL) office.

Those who wish to apply for worker adjustment assistance may do so through one of the local "One-Stop Career Centers" run by the state of Illinois; the four one-stop centers located within 25 miles of Du Quoin are listed below.
