SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Officers say a Sikeston woman is accused of stealing nearly $30,000 from a local grocery store.

Amber N. Coffey, 25, of Sikeston was charged with stealing more than $25,000, a class B felony.  She was given a $20,000 cash or surety bond and remained in custody awaiting arraignment.

Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd charged Coffey with the theft on Friday.

On January 18, the Save-A-Lot grocery store on 601 S. main in Sikeston contacted the Department of Public Safety about a theft from their business.

Management told officers that they were missing several deposits.  Each one of these deposits was signed out to be deposited by an employee.  Some of these deposits were dated as far back as October of 2011 and totaled nearly $30,000.

The store provided Coffey's name and other items of evidence, and said that she had resigned from her position in December 2011.

Information gathered at the grocery store and from the bank provided enough evidence for detectives to obtain a search warrant for Coffey's residence and vehicles.

On January 19 around 6:30 p.m., Sikeston's Criminal Investigative Unit served a search warrant at Coffey's apartment on North Kingshighway in Sikeston. Investigators say they found five bank deposit bags in the suspect's vehicle belonging to the store.

Coffey was taken into custody and the bank bags were seized.  According to DPS, they recovered a large portion of the stolen money inside the bank bags, but not all of the missing funds were there.
