Does it Work Wednesday: Salon Express

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Within minutes, you can decorate your nails like a pro with this stamping kit, Salon Express. Amy Nantz is willing to try it.

Amy chooses a neutral base coat, hoping that'll make her stamps really pop. We took a tip from our viewers on Facebook. We used a thick, more expensive polish that should seep into the etching of the designs on the Salon Express plates.

Then, just like the directions say, we work quickly to scrape off the excess polish, so Amy can roll the stamp onto her nails.

"It didn't pick it up."

More polish, more quick scraping...second try.

"Still didn't pick it up."

And, we poured it on thick, too...it's goopy.

"It still didn't do it!"

It just looks so easy in the commercial!  What's going on here?

"It just doesn't work."

Then, we read the manufacturer's suggestion to take a nail file and rough up this stamper a bit.

"It's messy."

A little bit goes onto Amy's nail...finally.

"Not worth the ten dollars or the hassle."

No matter how hard we try, even using different stamps, the designs just never fully roll onto Amy's finger nicely.

"It's all over my fingers and counters. That's expensive nail polish to waste on something that doesn't work!"

Most of the design ends up on her cuticle, not Amy's nail, and not like the makers of Salon Express promise.

"I'd have to say an 'F'---absolutely."

Hold on, Amy! Facebook viewers found a way to get this to work! It almost has you saying, "Duh." You gotta remove the blue film from this plate! It's not easy to do either though! Once you finally get the film peeled away, the stamp has an easier time picking up the polish.

Still, it's sloppy, and a lot of the polish ends up on your cuticle as before rather than the nail.

I'm with Amy...this is a lot of hassle. However, I will bump up the final grade to an average 'C' on this Does it Work test.
