Love In the Name of Christ is a national organization. More than two dozen churches in the Cape Girardeau area make up the local branch.

Angie Whitmore knows firsthand what Love In the Name of Christ can do. She says the Christian-based organization helped her turn her life around.

"Not only have they helped mentally, and physically supportive, but they have become my mentors," said Whitmore. "I always tell people if they have not heard of Love In the Name of Christ in their church, to ask their pastor why not ?"

Eva Hillis, Executive Director says they match people in need with Christians who can help.

"We're kind of the quirky Christians because if you have a need and you think ‘where can I get that,' call us because we have every skill that meets that need," said Hillis.

Services range from temporary house, to services like home or car repairs, and ongoing support for seniors and even financial education.

Hillis says it's time for Love, Inc. to expand and they want offer more than charity, but a way to people like Angie to develop skills to stand on their own

Reverend Paul Short says the churches involved are passionate about the mission at hand.

As for Whitmore, she found more than just a helping hand through Love, Inc. She says she found lasting friendships with people she now considers family and she has become a volunteer herself.
