Ever had a family vacation turn into a National Lampoon's style fiasco? There are easy things you can do to prevent that from happening.

Friday Heartland News got a first-hand look at solar panels installed at the Standley Batch Systems in Cape Girardeau.  Standley Batch Systems makes products for concrete plants nationwide and the business owner was looking for ways to cut costs on energy.

The owner of the company Ted Holzum had the solar panels installed on the roof of the business and says he is seeing quite a difference on the electric bill.  Holzum says the electric bill was cut by 25% and plans to continue to go green.

Holzum said, "Energy savings and be a little more green, changing things in the plant to save electric with Ameren's help, that's cutting our energy bill."  In the next four years Holzum hopes to have the whole plant completely reliant on solar power and to get some cash back for the energy the business doesn't use.

Tax breaks and incentives from the United States government and Ameren helped pay for the solar panel project at Standley Batch Systems.

A1 Energy and K & K Electric tell us they installed a 25 kW rooftop solar system with Siliken 245 W panels with  enphase M 215 Micro Inverters.
