JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Two people were injured Wednesday evening following a three-vehicle crash in Jackson County.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. on US Highway 51, 1/10 of a mile north of Truax Tracer Road in Elk Township.

According to the sheriff's office, an SUV driven by Jasmine Alexander, 19, was struck from behind by a car driven by Ashley Jackson, 25, forcing it into a pickup driven by 44-year-old Dennis Flowers.

Officers say Jackson had to be extracted from her car. All vehicles were southbound on Highway 51.

Flowers and Jackson were taken by EMS to a Carbondale hospital for treatment. Jackson was later transferred to a St. Louis hospital.

Alexander was cited for no valid license and no proof of insurance.

An investigation of the crash continues.
