Western Ky. lawmaker not seeking re-election

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Democratic state Rep. Mike Cherry of Princeton says he won't run for re-election next year.

Cherry said in a statement Thursday from Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo's office that he will be almost 70 by the end of his term and thinks the job requires someone with more energy. He is currently serving his seventh 2-year term.

Cherry represents the 4th District, which includes Caldwell, Crittenden, Livingston and part of McCracken counties.

Stumbo said Cherry, a retired Navy captain and chairman of the State Government Committee, has been an asset on issues concerning the day-to-day operation of state government, veterans and the military.
