Cape Girardeau women's shelter plans move for outreach office, thrift store

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A growing need for help means a big move for Cape Girardeau's Safe House for Women.

The building at 230 North Spring Street will be the new home for the women shelter's outreach offices and thrift shop.

It's more than ten-thousand square feet, plenty of space the executive director tells us, to handle the increased need for client services.

"We're going to be able to add services at the outreach office to help additional victims that we haven't been able to serve", Linda Garner said. "And anyone who's been to our thrift store lately knows we're totally out of space there."

Garner says the move will happen after the new year.

"In mid to late January, we're going to be relocating", she explained.

Garner says their practice at the Safe House is to be "good stewards of our resources."

As part of that effort, the shelter is seeking out gently used items to keep operational expenses at a minimum.

"We really appreciate the support from the community", Garner added.
