FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - The first 50 soldiers to return to Fort Campbell from Iraq since President Barack Obama announced U.S. troops would leave the country by the end of the year made it back in time for Thanksgiving.
The 50 troops of the 305th Quartermaster Company, 101st Sustainment Brigade, arrived back at Fort Campbell from Iraq on Wednesday night, according to The Leaf Chronicle of Clarkville, Tenn. (http://leafne.ws/sHoHSh)
Casey Dorough, who waiting with her children for the arrival of her husband, Spc. Eric Dorough, said his return was the best holiday gift.
When Obama made the announcement in October, Army officials had said more than 900 soldiers from the installation on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line were deployed in Iraq.
