Stoddard County nursing home residents come "Home for the Holidays"

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

For many this day is full of family and friends. But what if you are not able to get out of the house due to health issues?

Thursday, the Stoddard County Ambulance District picked up senior citizens from nursing homes throughout Stoddard County, and drove them home to visit with their friends and family.

For some to have everyone at the Thanksgiving dinner table brought many emotions.

"This is the only time she is going to get to come home, and spend the holidays in a home environment," said Granddaughter Jene McGill.

"It's just like it used to be at home, just like the family sitting around," said Great- Granddaughter Matney Davis. "I really like it."

"I love all of you," said Grandmother Fern Kirby.

The program is called "Home for the Holidays," and is organized through the nursing home.

To qualify for the program, the elderly person must be someone with limited mobility, or be bed restricted.

The entire service is free to the family.

This is the 26th year anniversary for the program.
