SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A shooting investigation is underway in Sikeston.
According to Lieutenant Jim McMillen with the Department of Public Safety, officers were called to the 400 block of Clayton Street around 12:30 Thursday morning for a report of a shooting.
McMillen said a fight started between two people in the street. During the fight, one of the people involved pulled out a pistol and shot two or three times.
A man was shot in the neck by one of those rounds. McMillen said the man was likely just a bystander. There was a party going on at a house near by, but officers aren't sure if the two people fighting were part of the party.
McMillen said the victim is actually very lucky because the bullet hit a spot just under the ear and hit the muscle. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers spent about two hours searching the area for evidence. They are still investigating. If you have any information about this crime, you're asked to call police.
