CANALOU, MO (KFVS) - What seems to be a growing problem has finally made its way to New Madrid County.
This is something totally new to investigators there. For the first time ever, New Madrid County authorities have arrested a suspect on charges related to synthetic marijuana or K2, as it's called. It's a chemical that's not really marijuana, but it can mimic the effects.
Authorities gathered about 52 grams that officers confiscated in the mail.
Supposedly someone had sent it to the suspect.
Christopher Gary Wilson of Canalou is charged with attempt to possess with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Sheriff Terry Stevens says he hopes authorities can take care of this problem quickly, and before it gets too out of hand.
He says sheriff's deputies have been investigating this particular case with the SEMO Drug Task Force for about four months.
