JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - In Cape Girardeau County, one of the big issues is the start up of two quarries near Fruitland.
That's what brought representatives from Fruitland, Jackson, and the two quarry companies before the Cape Girardeau County Commission Monday morning.
Both Strack Stone Company and Heartland Materials want to start operations on land near Saxony Lutheran High School.
While school leaders and some nearby homeowners want to stop the businesses, leaders in both Jackson and Fruitland also have an interest in the operations.
"The last thing you want to do is rush into a situation, cobble together something that's not legal or doesn't work and you don't set that area up for success," said Cape Girardeau Commissioner Clint Tracy.
In the meantime, the Jackson City Council will soon decide whether or not to annex the area around one of the planned quarries.
