BONNE TERRE, MO (KFVS) - Two people are in custody after an alleged domestic dispute where a man was found walking near an apartment with a gun while a woman hid inside with a crossbow.
Joe Harrison, 48, of Bonne Terre and Melanie Arnold, 40, of Bonne Terre are charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.
Harrison also faces a possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.
According to the Bonne Terre Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Fulton Street.
Police say they were called to the area after a call of shots being fired. An auxiliary officer near the area said that he heard "what sounded like a gun shot" from the top of the apartment on Fulton Street.
Officers found a Joe Harrison walking in a grassy area near the apartment. After officers ordered the man to stop, they say he placed the gun to his head. After telling the man several times to drop the gun, the suspect dropped it and was taken into custody.
Then officers saw Melanie Arnold coming from the upstairs apartment armed with a crossbow. Officers say she ignored orders to drop the weapon and ran back into the apartment.
Harrison told officers she also had an rifle in the apartment.
After being told to come out several times, the woman finally came out and was taken into custody.
Police say the apartment was searched and several items were taken as evidence.
No one was injured in the incident.
