UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A semi truck snarled traffic Thursday morning on Interstate 57 in Union County at the Dongola exit.

The driver of a semi truck hit a portion of the interstate that was cut out for repair and lost control at 7:35 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.

That driver ended up off the road.  Luckily, he didn't hit any other drivers and was not hurt himself.

Road workers says he came close to hitting one of them.

The driver, Abdisalan H. Abdirisak, 46, of Indianapolis, Ind. was cited for improper lane usage.

A passenger, Ali Shire, 34, of Columbus, Ohio, was taken to Union County Hospital for minor injuries.

Traffic remains at one lane in the area as road work continues, but it is moving.
