BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS) -

A judge sentenced a man to 12 years behind bars for statutory sodomy in Stoddard County.

Kyle L. Cantrell was sentenced Nov. 16 for statutory sodomy in the 1st degree.

He pleaded guilty on Sept. 7.

Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver requested a 20 year sentence, but the judge sentenced Cantrell to 12 years.

"However, we can be guaranteed that Mr. Cantrell will be off the streets for at least a decade and hopefully the statutory safeguards of lifetime monitoring will be successful in preventing the defendant from having the opportunity to harm any other children," Oliver said in a statement to Heartland News.

Cantrell will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.  Cantrell will be subject to lifetime supervision and electronic monitoring.
