CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Fire crews spent a few hours on the scene of a late night fire that swept through a home in Cape Girardeau.
The fire started around 11:15 p.m. Monday at a home at 302 S. Benton.
According to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, as many as five people were inside the home when the fire began. A firefighter said three children were among those inside and two of them jumped from a second floor window to safety.
One of the children did sprain an ankle and was taken to a local hospital. Everyone inside the home were able to get out before the fire department showed up to fight the fire.
An investigator says the fire appears to have started on the first floor and spread to the second floor up the stairwell.
As of 7 a.m., there was no official cause of the fire and it remains under investigation.
