Fire crews battle 5-acre forest fire near Fruitland

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Fire crews worked to put out a 5-acre forest fire late Sunday morning in Cape Girardeau County.

It was just off of County Road 535 north of County Road 532.

The fire has been put out. There is no word on how it started.

Wind played a factor in the fire spreading downhill which helped it not to spread.

Fruitland Fire Department first responded to the blaze, and put it out.

Fire department members say it is a good idea to keep a bucket of water handy if you plan to barbeque or grill on Sunday.
