Several injured in crashes on Route 13

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Several people were injured early Friday evening in two different crashes on Route 13. Both crashes happened in Williamson County.

The first crash happened around 6:48 p.m. on Route 13 East, just east of Campground Road.

According to state police, Christopher A. Johnson, 25, of Carbondale slowed for traffic when an SUV driven by Patsy L. Rogers, 52, of Carbondale failed to slow down.

Rogers tried to pass Johnson's truck when her SUV hit Johnson's truck and the SUV overturned.

Rogers received major injuries, and was taken to a Carbondale hospital. Police say Johnson was not injured.

A 13-year-old passenger in Rogers' SUV received minor injuries in the crash.

According to ISP, Rogers was charged with improper lane use.

Johnson was charged with driving with tinted windows and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

All were wearing seat belts.

The second crash happened around 7:38 p.m., on Route 13, just east of Spillway Road.

State police say Julius W. Fortner, 43, of Herrin stopped because of the first crash, and was in the left lane. A pickup driven by Joshua L. Hess, 33, of Carterville failed to slow down and hit Fortner's pickup in the rear.

Fortner received serious injuries. A passenger, Brandon Fortner received major injuries.They were taken to a Carbondale hospital for treatment.

Another passenger, Kathy J. Fortner, 41, of Herrin was not injured.

According to ISP, Hess was charged with failure to reduce speed.

All were wearing seat belts.
