A short handed sheriff's office is looking to lay off workers before the holidays.
The Massac County Sheriff's Office is expected to lay off one deputy and three jailers, and re-assign duties to the rest of the deputies. The layoffs are expected to happen by December 7, according to Sheriff Ted Holder.
The reason for the layoffs is largely due to the state being behind on their payments.
