HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg recognized a student veteran Thursday for its Veterans Recognition Ceremony.

Veteran Army sergeant and student Michael Spivey was presented the 2011 Student Veteran Recognition Award.

Spivey served in the Army for eight years, and is currently working toward his criminal justice degree at SIC.

He works as a deputy sheriff in Hardin County and also works for the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna.

Pre-K students got to explore a Humvee and perform at the Veterans Ceremony.
