CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Six candidates have committed to participate in the forum, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the WSIU-TV studios at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
All declared candidates, as well as those considering a run for the office, were invited by the SIEA. It is an organization of daily and weekly newspapers across southern and south-central Illinois.
Candidates who have agreed to participate in the forum include Republicans Jason Plummer, Theresa Kormos, Teri Newman and Roger Cook. As well as, Democrats Chris Miller and Ken Wiezer.
The forum will feature a panel discussion led by moderators. Officials say a presentation on the latest polling results from the Simon Institute will conclude the forum.
"This is an opportunity for the region's journalists and opinion leaders to become better informed about the candidates and issues, so their readers and viewers can make better decisions in this crucial election," said Greg Bilbrey, SIEA president. "We're also pleased to be able to partner with the School of Journalism."
Regional print and broadcast media, as well as students in the SIUC School of Journalism, are being invited to attend the event.
