HARDIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Cave-In-Rock Ferry reopened Wednesday afternoon after being closed much of the day due to high winds.
The ferry temporarily stopped service about 8 a.m., according to state transportation officials.
Wind dropped enough for the ferry to resume normal service around 4:15 p.m.
The ferry connects KY 91 with IL Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, Ky., and Hardin County, Ill.
Normal hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. central time, 7 days a week. The ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day.
The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from KYTC and IDOT through a ferry authority.
