POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Poplar Bluff Police arrested two people accused of cashing thousands of dollars worth of forged checks.
Hailey D. Coston is charged with four counts of forgery.
Lonnie C. Hamilton is charged with three counts of forgery.
According to the probable cause statement, Coston was the bookkeeper for Northside Nutrition Center Board.
According to the bank, 31 forged checks totaling $22,812.45 had passed.
The checks were cashed at several locations over the past several months.
Police found surveillance video from Wal-Mart and identified Coston and Hamilton allegedly cashing checks.
Police questioned Coston who told them she wrote the first check to help pay and bill and it snowballed from there as she continued to pay bills, even paying her neighbor's electric bill. Coston told police she asked Hamilton and Jordan to cash the checks and split the money with her.
Hamilton told police he would cash the checks the split the money with Coston, according to the probable cause statement.
