Cape Girardeau man seriously injured when his motorcycle hits a deer

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Cape Girardeau man was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Tuesday night.

Troopers say Joseph Melvin, 50-years-old of Cape Girardeau, was driving his 2005 Kawasaki on Rt. Y about .6 miles east of Rt. V shortly after 7 Tuesday night.

According to the crash report, a deer ran in front of his bike and he collided with the animal. The impact of the deer threw Melvin off his motorcycle.

Emergency responders took Melvin by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

According to state police, Melvin was wearing a helmet.
