SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Scott County officials say a man is lucky to be alive following a late night crash that shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 55.
The wreck happened at mile marker 72 around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, the driver of an 18 wheeler slowed down to watch firefighters battle a house fire in the area.
Sheriff Walter says the driver of a car was also watching the fire and didn't notice the semi and clipped the truck.
Walter says the driver of the car had to jump from it because another semi didn't stop and crashed into the car.
The crews working on the house fire rushed over to the scene to help the crash victims, when still another semi raced up onto the crash scene.
The driver of that truck was able to stop in time.
Sheriff Walter says no one was hurt in the wreck but the southbound lanes of I-55 were closed for about an hour.
Crews were able to open one lane of traffic around 11:45 Monday night and by Tuesday morning all lanes were open for travel.
