Police standoff with man in Scott City over, had warrants in Georgia

SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS) - Police say what was a standoff in Scott City is now over.

Negotiators were able to convince the man to give up and come out of the house. No one was harmed.

Scott City Police dispatch says it occurred on Charles Street.

Police at the scene say a man was inside the home with a gun. They were negotiating with him for over an hour and there were hostages.

Heartland News was there when the suspect surrendered to police and sheriff's deputies.

Officers let the suspect hug his grandmother, his daughter and other family members before taking him to jail.

His name's not available right now, but Sheriff Rick Walter says the suspect has warrants out of Georgia. He locked himself in his grandmother's basement with a rifle when officers arrived, because he said he didn't want to go back to prison, added Walter.

No word on what those warrants were for.

The suspect may soon be taken back to Georgia.
