ISP helped conservation authorities find lost family

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

More information is being released about some hikers that were lost and then found on Friday, Oct. 21.

According to Illinois State Police, Anthony Dipalo called Union County 911 on Friday, Oct. 21 around 5:33 p.m. saying his wife and two children, ages 13 and eight were lost near Bald Knob Cross.

Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources officers responded with Union County deputies and ISP Dist. 22 personnel. ISP contacted Air Ops in Springfield, which responded to the area.

During the search, authorities say they contacted Dipalo via cell phone. Dipalo was told to stay at a high position to maintain cell service and try looking for the plane overhead.

Around 7 p.m., IDNR said the lost family was contacted and being escorted to their vehicle, by Air Ops.
