Deer jumps out of home

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Could you imagine seeing a deer run out of someone's home? Neither could the couple that saw it happen.

Holly and Adam Fuehrer say they were one their way to school Tuesday morning. While driving down Cape Rock, they say they heard glass break.

"I thought something had happened to the car and my husband looked out the window and saw that it was a deer coming out of someone's basement," said Holly Fuehrer. "Coming out of their house, through a sliding door, so we were quite shocked to see something like that."

"Oh my god that's a deer," said Adam Fuehrer remembering what he was thinking at the time. "That's a deer coming out of their house, because the back legs were still in the house. It took a second to process, it was really strange."

The couple says they turned around and went back to find the animal, but by the time they returned, the deer was gone.

Holly Fuehrer says this won't be a story she will soon forget.

"It was quite a tale that I'm going to be telling [my daughter] and grandkids for years to come because I've never heard of such a thing as a deer breaking into a house," said Fuehrer. "I've never even heard of it, never conceive of it, much less see that actually happen."

The Cape Girardeau City Council is considering an urban deer hunting ordinance. While some say the deer population has gotten out of control, others worry about the safety of hunting inside city limits.
