POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Heartland News has obtained a copy of a letter notifying employees that Fortis may have to close.
The letter points to a potential loss of its credit line.
It says the company is working to secure continuing credit and meet with its customers and lender, but "permanent closure may be inevitable."
There are about 100 employees at Fortis.
The letter says those employees should consider the end of their employment to be between Dec. 2 and 16.
According to the letter, the Missouri Department of Economic Development and Mayor of Poplar Bluff have been notified.
City leaders say they are aware of the potential closure. Meanwhile, employees we spoke with tell us they assume their employment at Fortis is over, and many are already looking for other jobs.
