OLIVE BRANCH, IL (KFVS) - The 3rd Annual Tour de Shawnee bike ride was held Saturday in Alexander County.
Over 300 riders participated in the annual event.
This year some participants wanted to help an area hit hard from this spring's massive flooding.
The ride started at the Horseshoe Lake Community Center on Highway 3 in Olive Branch.
Entry fees of $25 were to be used by Alexander County Tourism to support local tourism events.
The Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ) will use their portion to benefit students with a record of volunteer service to their community. It will be used to endow the Willard Murrie Scholarship at Shawnee Community College.
Last year SIDEZ officials say the economic impact of tourism increased 6.2 percent because of the event, according to the US Travel Association.
