CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Members of a second union on the campus of Southern Illinois University may strike on Nov. 3.
"ACsE (Association of Civil Service Employees-IEA/NEA) represents over 400 front line workers essential to campus services for students ," said ACsE President Cyndie Kessler-Criswell.
"Our leadership voted unanimously today to set 12:01 am on November 3 as our strike date," she said, "unless a tentative agreement is recommended by the bargaining team before then."
According to Kessler-Criswell, her union is "hopeful that it doesn't come to a strike and that we will reach a suitable agreement through the bargaining process."
Friday evening another SIu union voted to set a strike date. The non tenure track faculty association is the third union to set November 3 at 12:01 as a strike date, according to NTTFA president Anita Stoner.
The president of the group tells Heartland News this doesn't mean they will strike, if they can reach an agreement with the SIU administration.
She says it's not about money, rather key issues are lay off procedures and job security.
There are at least 500 members of the non-tenure faculty association, and around 300 are full time teachers.
