CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - East County firefighters worked to contain a field fire in Cape Girardeau County Friday afternoon.

The fire is now out.

Firefighters got the call Friday afternoon of a field fire along County Road 635.  It is near the Emerald Valley Lake Estates subdivision.

The fire started from a controlled burn of a brush fire that got out of control, according to the East County Fire Department.

The fire burned sage brush.

Firefighters started a back burn to keep it away from the houses and other structures.  They watched the perimeter to allow to burn itself out.

Heartland News photographer Don Frazier says the fire looked to be about 10 acres on fire and created quite a bit of smoke and flames.
