Man arrested after string of burglaries south of Carbondale

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office arrested a Makanda man after a series of residential burglaries south of Carbondale.

Joshua B. Meacham, 29, was arrested for residential burglary and possession of stolen property.

Evidence found at Meacham's home led to his arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

Tips from the public helped lead the sheriff's office to Meacham.

According to the department, there have been at least eight burglaries in the residential areas along U.S. 51 south of Carbondale so far this month. Several people in the area told deputies that a white man has knocked on their door and asked suspicious questions. The incidents have happened during the day, according to the sheriff's department.

One caller told investigators the man left the area on a small motorcycle or moped.
